Vintage Broach

Ever looking for vintage jewelry to repurpose? I always keep my eye out at thrift stores and flea markets for inexpensive costume jewelry to use as embellishments for projects. I just love the bold statement a piece of bling-bling can make. I recently discovered a way to get free or at least uber inexpensive jewelry…

I don’t venture into a mall very often, but I recently had to run an errand and while waiting for my friend I checked out the accessories at Forever 21. I give them props for always having trendy jewelry and a great selection of vintage inspired pieces. As I dug through the bins and piles of jewels I made a stash of the pieces that had broken off- the misfits, the unwanted treasures.

I selected a $3 ring to purchase and brought my pile of broken jewelry to the counter and asked how much they’d charge. It was FREE! Granted it totally depends on each store and the sales rep, but it never hurts to ask! So start browsing (often in the jewelry sale section) of your local department store or accessories shop. I would highly recommend purchasing at least something from the store to show you’re not just out for the freebies (even if you are). :)

Has anyone else tried this? Let me know what you got! And just think, faux vintage jewelry has more benefits than the green ring left around your finger, neck or ear. ha!
